Scuffles erupt at PML-N provincial council meeting in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: An activist of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from Charsada, Iftikhar Khan, was man-handled by his fellow party members when he asked leaders to adopt practical steps for foiling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s (PAT) move against the government rather than making prolonged speeches in air-conditioned halls.

The PML-N Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday arranged a convention to stimulate workers for the support of the government and for countering PTI and PAT rhetoric through political means. The convention, arranged in a commercial gathering hall in the Hayatabad area of Peshawar was attended by party stalwarts and workers from all over Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the adjacent Federally Administrative Tribal Areas (FATA).

Khan, the injured party member, was unable to control his emotions when the PML -N central senior vice president and Advisor to Prime Minister Engineer Amir Muqam was delivering his speech.

He implored Engineer Amir Muqam, Sahibzada Sabir Shah and others members, that there was no need for speeches. “Come forward for practical steps for the protection of democracy and elected government,” he demanded.

This enraged supporters of Muqam who attacked Khan, injuring him. Khan was rushed to the Hayatabad Medical Complex soon after the incident.

The PML-N Provincial Secretary General Rahmat Salam Khattak confirmed that Khan had been admitted to the hospital, adding that his injuries were minor. Khattak though said the incident was the “outcome of a misunderstanding.”
